Bournemouth University logo Alongside more traditional sports courses, Bournemouth University provides prospective students with the opportunity to enrol on a Performance Sport course that allows students to train and play competitively all over the globe.

Bournemouth University also offers a number of Active IQ Fitness Qualifications: more vocational courses which allow students to pursue a professional career in the industry of exercise, sport and health.

Bournemouth University is home to a wide variety of volunteer and community projects helping students gain experience and traction within sports and health industries through SportBU. This includes CoachBU -originally known as RELAYS- which aims to broaden young peoples’ horizons and help them achieve their potential, both on and off the field.

The placements on offer include coaching, officiating, events, health & wellbeing, media and community support.

Undergraduate Sport Courses at Bournemouth University

BSc (Hons) Sport & Exercise Science
This course covers a wide range of areas including physiology, psychology, biomechanics and nutrition to help you gain a comprehensive understanding of the impact of exercise on health.

BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching
This course will allow you to develop your understanding of the complex sport coaching environment in order to enhance sport and society through coaching practice.

BSc (Hons) Sport Management
This dynamic course has been developed following extensive consultation with numerous industry bodies and various national governing bodies to make sure it’s as relevant as possible to the ever-changing sports industry.

BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy
Qualifying and practising as a sports therapist will enable you to provide advice and treatment for the prevention and rehabilitation of injuries.

BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy
This course will encourage you to become an autonomous physiotherapist able to deliver a high standard of care based on sound theory and research.

Many of the undergraduate programs at Bournemouth University are available with a Foundation Year option, allowing prospective students to get accustomed to academic life before joining the degree course.

Postgraduate Sport Courses at Bournemouth University

MSc Sport Management
Advance your knowledge of the processes that have contributed to the emergence of sport as a global phenomenon and learn to critically assess and act on the implications for the future development and management of sport.

MSc Nutrition & Behaviour
This course explores the dynamic combination of nutrition and behaviour. Accredited by the Association for Nutrition (AfN) this is the first course of its kind in the UK to explore the bi-directional impact of nutrition on behaviour and the brain, and the impact of behaviour on diet.

Active IQ Fitness Qualifications at Bournemouth University

SportBU works with Active IQ, the UK’s leading awarding body for fitness qualifications, to provide courses designed to turn your passion for health and fitness into a long-term career by developing competent fitness professionals. All of Bournemouth University’s Academy of Performance Coaching (APC) courses are accredited by the CIMSPA and, therefore, are nationally recognised among health and fitness employers. Examples of these courses include:

Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing
This qualification trains learners to a professionally competent level, enabling them to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes within a gym or health club environment.

Level 3 Personal Training Course
The Level 3 Personal Trainer Course is a brilliant way to build your repertoire and gain an industry-acknowledged award. The course is much more condensed than most, getting you qualified in 6 weeks.

Level 3 Sports Massage Course
The Active IQ Certificate in Sports Massage (Soft Tissue Therapy) is at level 3 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). You’ll learn from a member of the Academy of Performance Coaching team.

Level 4 Sports Massage Therapy
The aim of this course is to provide you with the knowledge and skills to treat and/or seek to correct common patterns of dysfunction in pre-diagnosed injuries.
