Undergraduate Sport Courses at the University of Exeter

BSc Exercise and Sport Science
During the degree students will develop their knowledge of physiology, biomechanics, and psychology, and gain a comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles underlying sport and exercise performance and participation. Students will also acquire scientific research and enquiry skills that are important for careers in both sport and exercise science, and other science-focused industries.

BSc Human Biosciences
This degree programme allows the study scientific aspects of health, physical activity and molecular and cellular biology and recognises the importance that exercise can play in the prevention and treatment of disease. Students will receive a thorough grounding in the study of human and molecular biology together with the various sub-disciplines of exercise and sport sciences, including biomechanics, kinesiology, human and applied physiology, molecular biology, genetics and medical microbiology.

BSc Nutrition
The BSc Nutrition programme offers the opportunity to explore the scientific relationship between diet, health and wellbeing using cutting-edge research to understand the importance of nutrition for health and performance. The course provides practical, hands-on experience taking advantage of the specialist facilities available in the University of Exeter’s world-class laboratories, and informed by the vast expertise of our Sport and Health Sciences academics.

BSc Psychology with Sport and Exercise Science
The BSc Psychology with Sport and Exercise Science is taught jointly by Psychology and Sport and Health Sciences. The degree provides an excellent foundation for any student interested in a career as a psychologist with a particular focus on applying those skills in the broad areas of sport, exercise and health maintenance.

Postgraduate Sports Courses at the University of Exeter

MSc Sport and Health Science
With an excellent reputation for teaching quality, the MSc Sport and Health Sciences presents an exciting and challenging opportunity to develop scientific understanding of sport, exercise and health. Programme content is underpinned by past and current research from the University of Exeter’s internationally recognised research groups: Integrative Physiology, Human Movement Science, and  Physical Activity and Health Across the Lifespan.

Msc Sport and Exercise Medicine
This course will help students develop their scientific understanding of sport, exercise and medicine through theoretical concepts in applied sport, health and exercise settings.
The subject areas are underpinned by internationally recognised research, with a diverse range of optional modules allied to the University of Exeter’s research expertise.

MSc Paediatric Exercise and Health
This course in Paediatric Exercise and Health offers a thorough grounding in the unique physiological responses of children and adolescents during exercise and how these responses are influenced by age, sex and biological maturation. It provides an in-depth evaluation of the relationships between physical activity, fitness and health in young people.

The University of Exeter as a proven history of helping nurture sportsmen and women across the board at both intramural and international level:

Monika Mikkola – member of the Finnish Olympic Sailing Team, competing in the women’s single-handed Olympic class, the Laser Radial. Since moving to Radial, Monika has won three junior World and two European Championships. She has won multiple Senior World Cup medals and has held a world ranking of 4th.
Henry Slade – English professional rugby union player. He plays for the Exeter Chiefs in Premiership Rugby and represents England at international level.
