We want you to use your talent and passion to document the lives of our young footballers, at the academy and school we support as they navigate their way through school, training and living away from home. As well as working on your individual project, this internship offers the opportunity to teach our children key photography skills and show them the world from a different perspective.
For those with a specific interest in sports videography and sports photography we can arrange for you to shadow some of Ghana’s most respected sports journalists, who will introduce you to the exhilarating world of documenting competitive sport on TV, in newspapers or on the radio.
Your Sports Filmmaking and Photography Placement
Based in the vibrant capital city of Accra, our sports photography and videography internship offers you a unique opportunity to create, teach and develop your talent whilst drawing inspiration from the people and culture of Ghana.
You will spend most of your time working within our football academy, documenting their lives at school, their training sessions and how they develop as young people. You will have the freedom to create your media project as you see fit; perhaps you will be inspired by the passion of football or maybe the joys and conflicts that arise when underprivileged young people are striving to realise their potential. There are many stories waiting to be told and it’s up to you to choose which one! Our in-country team will be ready to assist you with ideas and organisational opportunities.
As an optional addition to your time in Ghana we would welcome you to also run photography, filmmaking or interview workshops with our young players. This is to stretch them creatively and also prepare them for another dimension of the sporting world, since a few of the football academy players have gone on to play for their National Team at World Cup level. So running interview techniques and getting them familiar with the camera is also perfect training should they make the spotlight. We also want to open up other channels of opportunity for our young sportsmen and women, so should they not make the professional grade, they can still fall back on other sports based careers, such as working into the sports filmmaking industry.
Your Professional Sports Filmmaking Opportunity
Our sports network in Ghana is extensive since we work with all the professional sports bodies and associations, including sports media production units and individual sports journalists. We are keen to open this up to you, so depending on your sports interest this could see you working alongside a Ghanaian journalist at a national sports event (schedule permitting); documenting, interviewing and photographing the various elements to make newsworthy content. This could go out on the various sports TV channels, sports reviews in national newspapers or at a radio station. Ghanaians are passionate about sport, so you will have a captive and passionate audience ready to receive the work you produce whilst you are away with us on this unique sports filmmaking and media production internship in Ghana.
When you book this sports filmmaking internship with us, it is important to stress which areas of journalism or subject interest you would like to work in, so that we can arrange this for you before you arrive.
Gaining work experience at this level will open up wider opportunities for you in the sports media industry and will hopefully give you the boost you need to get future employment from it. You will also be supporting an up-and-coming football academy and whilst the content you produce will be hugely beneficial to the organisation, we are sure that this will become valuable to you as you explore your own sports media career.
Other Film-making and Photography Opportunities
As an organisation providing a number of sports development opportunities for international sporty people, you may also want to follow other sports interns and volunteers who are coaching and playing sport on their placements, whether to contribute at a coaching level or even to film these too. This would take you into the wider communities of Accra in different sports like hockey, netball, rugby and even boxing since the boxing scene in Ghana is huge. All these experiences should keep you extremely busy and give you a unique sports experience that you will value for many years to come!
