Rebecca graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2016 with a degree in Medical Sciences and went on to complete her Masters in Physiotherapy (pre registration) at King’s College London. During her studies, she completed a year’s physiotherapy placement at London Scottish Rugby Club, where her role included; implementing rehabilitation plans, assisting in injury prevention programmes and pitch-side first aid.
Post graduation, Rebecca worked with Northampton Saints Rugby Club, where she was responsible for the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of acute and chronic injuries of the senior and academy squads, and was part of the 1st and 2nd XV match day management staff. She then worked as a sports massage therapist in a French ski resort, before taking part in our sports physiotherapy placement in St. Lucia. While working within our programme, she supported a lead physio coordinator, Zhenya Allen, with rehabilitation for patients suffering from long term neurological conditions such as strokes and Parkinson’s disease. Her sport focus was working with the male and female Saint Lucia National Rugby teams and she was closely involved in the education of sports scholarship students, covering the importance of functional movement screening and injury prevention.
Since July 2019 Rebecca has been working as an NHS, MSK physiotherapist. Now in a band 7 role as first contact practitioner in a GP surgery and senior team lead of operations, her management role has been supporting students in their university placements and their clinical educators.
“I am excited to be returning to Saint Lucia and being able to offer physiotherapy services to aspiring athletes on the island who cannot normally access it due to funding and availability.”
